"An INSOMNIAC candy taster attempts to release her SEXUAL IMPULSES through a trip to her INNER WORLD. Struggling to separate her work at the Uva Blanca de Borgoña vineyard from her DAYDREAM TERRORS, she identifies the existence of LINI, who exposes the former's LOST CHILDHOOD and makes her the target of a dangerous subsistence CULT based on the IRRUPTION OF INTIMACY."

A WAKEFULNESS OF INDOCILITY ("Un desvelo de indocilidad") is a two-volume animation-over-live-footage arthouse FEATURE FILM written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Laura Maria Isabel Ruiz Ocadiz, who, adapting her novel of the same name to the big screen, transports us in her debut feature to an oneiric and lethal world...
But, please, allow our director to tell you everything you need to know about the film:
-
LMIRO: "The message of the movie is (hopefully) clear: 'We should not allow fear to spread'. My sole intention with these two films is to take away from our collective nostalgia and strengthen our will to live an eternal experience within an intimate freedom. One that we can find deep within our beings."
(Pic: Robert Kett and Julie Díaz star as the nefarious cultists Maese Buzo [Master Diver] & Lini!)

(Pic: A.I. concept design of LINI and the scuba diving subsistence cult).
LMIRO: "'A Wakefulness...' is a film that I hope will show an internal freedom that is difficult to find: A search in the guts, in the muscles, in the memory that insists on having the sense of will to think about what could have been and has not; but can now, as soon as you want, because the desire is greater than any destiny. This is what my film talks about, and it is important that you're able to see it because its intentions go beyond a simple interest in the seventh art, since it aims to create a will from which a sense of freedom that could not be purer emerges. Our current world has made a great effort to spread fear and repression, but I am not trying to make a school of this film. I simply intend to provide a mirror with which to explore the heart. We all need intimacy, currently an expensive luxury that is not paid for with money, but perhaps with too negative experiences, and that intimacy is part of the center of freedom; needing each other to form individuals committed to feelings in today's world: sad and almost empty. We want to have the will to be free in our privacy, just as we are in dreams or when facing the descriptions of idealists, and that is why the film should be for those who need it: For those who long for a different meaning in a world that does not change in its coldness."
ORIGINAL TITLE: "Un desvelo de indocilidad."
BOOK SYNOPSIS: Gertrudis' lost childhood gave her an obsession with the ideal home, forcing her to break into the privacy of others. Accompanied by eight friends determined to hide their feelings, she will face a dangerous subsistence system flawed in social values. In her third novel, the director presents a work of dramaturgical narrative structured as a theatrical piece. Psychological and dreamlike in nature, the work is based on the theories of psychosocial development of Eric Erikson and built in his extensive interpretation based on Die Traumdeutung by Sigmund Freud. It also incorporates the key concept of Abraham Maslow's work, A Theory of Human Motivation.
Author: Laura Maria Isabel Ruiz Ocadiz.
Genre: Literary Fiction.
Editor: Eduardo Farquet.
Pages: 268.
Published on: December the 8th, 2020.
Language: Spanish.*
Available on Paperback and Kindle!
LMIRO: "The portrait in front of a mirage is the narrative of Gertrudis who carefully describes her intimate origins from the home to the mouth of her beloved Silvestre. Recreating a dream made into prose, she returns to the arms of her friends to determine her limits and distinguish herself as a woman eager for sex. Surrounded by ghostly figures like Anunciación and Lini, who question her mental balance until Gertrudis comes to vacillate before a subsistence system ruled by a Master Diver. "Un desvelo de indocilidad" is a literary fiction story attached to a dream, in an emotionally toxicological and uncontrolled surreal environment at the moment of our wake."

Meet The Mind Behind The Dream!
LAURA MARIA ISABEL RUIZ OCADIZ was born in 1983 in Mexico City, in the cradle of a family of musicians. A fanatic of the seventh art, Mexican melodrama and classical literature, she developed her abilities in different artistic disciplines from an early age, including Acting for Musical Comedies at the Artestudio academy. Years later, she graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology and, being a cinephile, she gained a certain popularity online as a movie critic, years before the rise of modern social media. This was a milestone that led her to collaborate with the online magazine F.I.L.M.E. Magazine, providing her cinematographic analysis of several works, and to be featured as a guest on Radio IPN... (continues below)
(...) In 2010, she attained a scholarship from SOGEM (the General Society of Writers of Mexico), and upon finishing her studies in literature, as a member of the Neurological Center Research Department of the ABC Medical Center, she contributed to the scientific magazine Medical Annual, while looking for a creative outlet. In 2014, CONACULTA selected her as the Arthouse and Auteur Film T.V. spot screenwriter for the Cinema 22 film block, at Canal 22 (Channel 22). Her artistic career naturally branched off into the making of the short films Sueños y realidades ("Dreams & Realities", 2016) and El regalo ("The Gift", 2015) —shooting the latter... (continues below)
(Videos: [left to right] Maria is interviewed by Munich's New Wave Short Film Festival and the Tokyo Short FF about her multi-awarded "Misplace the Rabbits". Yet another success from Pertúrpure Cinema.)
(...) the year she began her Film Directing education through a course by Mexican filmmaker and actor Diego Luna—, both of which she wrote and directed, ultimately getting them screened in several national events; particularly at the Pantalla de Cristal film festival from the Cineteca Nacional De México (National Cinematheque of Mexico). Maria then decided to take a more formal step at filmmaking with a Master's Degree in Cinematography from Altrafílmica, which at the end she complemented —selected for a scholarship by editor, writer and director Juan Pablo Cortés (Amar te duele ["Love Hurts", 2002]; Luciana, 2010)— with the Film Editing course at the Center for Cinematographic Studies (CEC) in Mexico City... (continues below)
(...) In 2018, she married actor, producer and film editor Roberto Eduardo Arenas Farquet, and enjoyed a well-deserved break from cinema that led her to publish three literary fiction novels: Amnistía ("Amnesty", 2018), El canotier de Steve: La verdad y la vida ("Steve's boater: Truth and Life", 2020), and Un desvelo de indocilidad ("A Wakefulness of Indocility", 2021); ultimately returning to cinema with the release of her latest short film anthology (described above) and her directorial debut feature film which we present herein.

AND MORE!
Maria Ruiz Ocadiz on her directorial vision for the movie(s):
LMIRO: "Analytical geometry trained me in the skills that my sensoriality required to make my own narrative voice fly. And so, with a purely dreamlike, psychological and philosophical style, I chose the cameras I'd use on my directorial debut; not following any trends, but hoping they will reflect my own brand of art cinema onto the screen. A container of unique images coming from the feeling of the brain ensures that the mirrors of the soul of each character have a captivating development, like the complex beauty that one hopes to find when waking up from a nightmare and trying hard to understand it... (continues below)
(...) My intention has never been that whatever I wanted to say was understood correctly, since it would be necessary to analyze the theory and my postulates from the depths, with all the objectivity that a new way of talking about heartbreak, freedom, and intimacy brings. I simply carry a specific geometry within me: a shape of my emotional depths. Said geometry becomes altered in my interpretation —often with an artistic, if not cinematographic, result—, turning everything into a dream that can be seen through a different eye, in the rawest terms that I can capture on camera; perhaps within the poetry of Gaston Bachelard or 'The Interpretation of Dreams' by Sigmund Freud.... (continues below)
(...) I am happy to show my work because it has the potential of my 'self' and its character. The Direction of Actors taken from the acting technique 'Practical Aesthetics' allowed me to discover in my performers' emotions a reality that we're not usually close to or that perhaps we could not even imagine, for it ranges from gesture to gesture until reaching something endearing, without necessarily being loving. On the contrary, a way of 'not loving' is postulated, precisely what corrupts freedom and gives a twist to intimacy. Without a doubt, the direction was planned in a very extravagant way, promising an escape, a scandal, or even a dare for its subject. I am proud to present everyone's work."
(Pic: Our director also plays a part in this story, as the possessive VENANCIA. Truly a complete artist.)
((Pic: It is through the eyes of Julie Díaz and Robert Kett that we discover the oneiric side of cinema, which makes us face a stark and current reality: Sects.)
JULIE DÍAZ
LMIRO: "The captivating stage presence of our revelation actress takes us to a dream world through body expression and gives life to an endearing antihero. In “A Wakefulness...” we enjoy the work of this Mexican TV star, who defines herself under numerous acting techniques which lead her to an eclectic and unmatched precision on the set. With an incredible capacity for gesticulation, she proves that acting is a palpable feeling, not just an idea about character development. Wonder that she intends to interpret, wonder that becomes a reality. Leaving her emotions well practiced, Julie Diaz is a comet that will leave a trail on your mind and a mark on your heart. I invite you all to succumb to the emotional brilliance of her performance."

(Pic: Julie poses above her character's childish nemesis, the obnoxious ANUNCIACIÓN).

A few of Julie Díaz's credits include the TV series, Como dice el dicho, La rosa de Guadalupe, and Niñas promedio (Suárez, 2018).
(Video: Our Star, Julie Díaz, who plays "LINI", presents her Demo Reel from 2020.)
ROBERT KETT
LMIRO: "A revelation of Mexican and worldwide arthouse cinema plays the antagonic character in a bifurcation created between an enticing evil and the horror of inverted human needs. Demonstrating a sense of character based on dramaturgy and evolutionary cinema through a Practical Aesthetic technique, Robert Kett will shock audiences with his controlled emotionality that fills two very different characters with sensitivity, nuances and excitement. The tremendous introjection in each part he plays in the movie triggers utopian thinking about the power of impersonal projection, contradicting Meisner's theories."
-

(Pic: Robert Kett also stars as the antagonist of Ruiz Ocadiz's successful 2021 short: "Misplace the Rabbits".)
(Pic: Spanish language promotional material from "A Wakefulness..." featuring Díaz and Kett).
LMIRO: "I do not intend to come across as pretentious when talking about these wonderful filmmakers, but rather give each of them the importance a teacher should be given. Jean-Luc Godard has helped me face the dark forest full of monsters, making it very clear to me who I am and what I want to say without fear of anything or anyone. It is thanks to him that I can trust and jump from the top of one mountain to another without falling. --Woody Allen has shaken my heart. He has questioned me about love and has consciously taught me that heartbreak always ends in the same discovery: being in love. --David Lynch has immersed me in my own mental world full of letters and images that, despite being painful, can be as beautiful as life; a life made into cinema yesterday, today and always. --Maja Milos has empowered me as a woman. She has shown me the highest and only degree of sex. She has shown me honesty when expressing an idea. She has shown me that nothing can be as pure as sex. --Thanks to my influences, today I'm ready to introduce myself to the world as a director."
(Pic: [left to right] Film Directors Jean-Luc Godard, Maja Milos, Woody Allen and David Lynch.)

"A shroud of darkness, the influence of Tlatilco's 'El Acróbata' (The Acrobat) looms over the characters."
LINI
Played by: JULIE DÍAZ
LMIRO: "'Lini' represents the color 'green', living with a vibrant, erotism-disguised nostalgia which she believes will lead her to an intimate freedom."
(Pic: AI concept design for Lini. Deciding which version of the character deserved to be brought to the screen was a tough decision...)
(...In the end, it was decided that she'll maintain some of her evil traits from her namesake in the book, while becoming a much more humane and troubled character. The incredibly talented Julie Díaz was able to bring her character a sense of despair not found in the original story.)
SILVESTRE & MASTER DIVER (MAESE BUZO)
Played by: ROBERT KETT
LMIRO: "'Silvestre' represents the color 'red' that experiences torment for exchanging love for basic desire. Its gesticulating vocabulary deals with dreams and mirrors carnality in fearful, naive and immature women."
LMIRO: "'The 'Master Diver' represents the color 'purple', which leads people to believe it is the way of nature to accept darkness of the mind and body, damaging intimacy."
GERTRUDIS (TOON)*
Voiced by: ?
*final design pending.
LMIRO: "'Gertrudis' represents the color 'yellow', craving sincere happiness through sexual realization, from the most basic to the most outlandish".
(Pic: Test footage still from the "Main Chase" scene, featuring a preliminary design that conveyed the basic psychology of the main character).
VENANCIA
Played by: TOPANGA MCPHEE
LMIRO: "'Venancia' represents the color 'gold', bereft by a withered male ideal. An ideal that weakens her sense of intimacy."
(Pic: As a director/performer, Ruiz Ocadiz [a.k.a Topanga McPhee] originally played volatile Venancia to support her own debut feature. Little did she knew how much she'd enjoy it!)
OTHER CHARACTERS INCLUDE:
DOMINGO, played by JACC.
ELISA, played by Onésima Teresita (GAASI).
THE DOCTOR, voiced by Robert Kett.
(Pic: The Doctor, a marionette character who undergoes a drastic transformation throughout the movie.)
Mr. MONTES DE OCA (TOON), voiced by Robert Kett.
EDELMIRA (TOON), voiced by ?
and, of course... THAT WIG-WEARING BRAT...
...ANUNCIACIÓN!
Voiced by: Babi Rouz
LMIRO: "'Anunciación' represents the color 'pink' of an immature selfishness and a vain, painless understanding of the world; a toy-like CONSCIOUSNESS."
LMIRO: "Enveloping dreams with the work of Ludwig van Beethoven is an idea that could illuminate people with a remnant of the past collapsed within a present full of cinema. From a place where fantasy awakens in an 'almost', comes 'Quasi una fantasia', the one that declares Beethoven's love for seeing everything as an event of love: slow, rosy, dark, meekly; it allows us “A sleeplessness…”, which is how Beethoven must have felt.
"The musical verdict coming from the great coexistence and enlightening conversations with our composer, Maestro Marco Iannello, add to the precise and sentimental musicality for each scene of the film, thus demonstrating the maturity of our Arthouse effort."
And it is in the era of awakening that we invite ourselves (by our own 'selves') to live the R.M.B heartache party that is 'Burn With Me', capturing every sensation of the moment to be able to save it forever in the flow of our blood; stricken with the rhythm of "Ego", which clears sexual memory and takes you on a galactic journey; with an open mind's eye and wholeheartedness that only 'Zen' can compel us to achieve. Not to perceive R.M.B.'s songs and voice as a unique act of desire is madness.
Opening the Dance cycle, added to that vintage act comes an original song composed and performed by Natalie Dime, which makes us fly over the thoughts of lack of love of our protagonist, with no place to forget, only to concentrate on giving yourself to your lover, until the world ends, until sleeplessness. Understanding INDOCILITY as a permission to express the emotion of life with the dance that marked what we were and what we are, Natalie Dime takes us to this mental and physical place with 'This Crown'.
Gertrudis' DREAM, Lini's FEAR, Silvestre's HEARTBREAK and Anunciacion's LONELINESS come true on the big screen thanks to the impeccable musicology of Marco Iannello, distinguished by his unique style in the composition of classical pieces that express the passion of human beings regarding the moments within a lifetime of hardship. The musical verdict coming from the great coexistence and enlightening conversations with our composer, Marco Iannello, add to the precise and sentimental musicality for each scene of the film, thus demonstrating the maturity of our arthouse effort."
(Pic: We are thrilled to enlist the huge talents of [from left to right] Marco Ianello, R.M.B. and Natalie Dime as the ringleaders of our musical spectacle. The eternal pieces of Ludwig van Beethoven will wrap it all up nicely in a shroud of melancholy).
As eagerly awaited for movie goers of each film throughout history, our unmatched score and soundtrack both detail the process of thought when riddled by the madness of heartbreak with melodies that decipher desire and obsession. Definitely something to be remembered for the rest of our lives.

TLATILCO?

(Pic: A shroud of darkness, the influence of Tlatilco's 'El Acróbata' [The Acrobat] looms over the characters).
(Pic: Like a foreboding glimpse of secrets that were, the label of Uva Blanca de Borgoña's fictional brand of chardonnay warns us about Tlatilco: 'The Place of Hidden Things').
LMIRO: "The cinematographic world is governed by the need to turn fiction into reality, for which I have developed my Art Direction under the guidelines of Production Designer Roberto Eduardo Arenas Farquet. We succeeded in achieving the recreation of our magical Mexican beach 'Zipolite' in all its splendor, materializing before our eyes in our set... (continues below)
(...) The Art Direction with its colors, textures and shapes pounces to the screen on this film, much like our several four-legged performers, whom we've taken in great care, making clear the dreamlike atmosphere in which the characters develop, some scenes accompanied by honest Conceptual Art [not 'Concept Art']; a sample of what cinema is capable of doing with the artistic and narrative placement of what would otherwise be considered props."
LMIRO: "In charge of exposing the final cinematographic work is Roberto Eduardo Arenas Farquet, who opens an attic to a dimension made by the insides, leaving you with a sudden, cut-off sigh that can almost drown you in visual pleasure, as you recognize that living, breathing entity within the film. His montage is displayed as an extreme way of living, which brings together the changes that reality plays with and the expectations that one has about an imaginary world, in order to detail the authentic aspect of dreams... (continues below)
(...) Sensation of incongruity and perfection of congruence are both triggered in the cuts that chill the soul, through an influential visual rhythm for those seeking a reflection of creation. Like a dynamic apparatus that transforms everything that was filmed into a surreal reality —unlike anything you've known—, a mental reality within each of us, Arenas Farquet's montage unearths the secrets that we've always yearned to discover."

JOIN THE VERTEX SHARP TRANSIENT!
Forever become a part of Mexico's unique cinematographic history by joining the effort to make the first animation-over-live-action feature film to come from our country!
What We Need & What You Get
The cameras have stopped rolling... the actors have left the set. But this was ONLY THE FIRST HALF of our work! In order to make a live-action animation feature, we still need to actually put some CARTOONS on top of our footage!! That's where the voice talent and animators come in, and that's what we call (at least for this movie) our post-production stage.
-
Other aspects of this stage also include Film Editing and Sound Design, but those are being well-taken care of by our Montagist Roberto Eduardo Arenas Farquet (a.k.a. Robert Kett), also starring as the main baddie!
-
Also, since we want this story to be enjoyed by anyone who dares to, distribution should positively be as important as the filmmaking process itself! You will also be supporting our effort by making it possible for us to submit our films to Film Festivals and other streaming and pay-per-view platforms.
INSURANCE AGAINST UNRELEASE:
This is a movie (or movies) with over 5 hours of already shot footage. Though it's true we still need to cover some expenses, mostly related to post-production (including animation and voice acting) we can safely say each separate film is pretty much COMPLETED. If you were, say, THE ONLY BACKER, you can rest assured THESE FILMS WILL BE RELEASED! We mainly need help to take things to a WHOLE different level, such is the way of our media family. On the other hand, "A WAKEFULNESS OF INDOCILITY" Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 will go on their respective festival tours AT THE SAME TIME THEY'RE BEING PRESENTED TO A LARGER PUBLIC. This means that you'll be able to watch the final product on more than one streaming platform, hence we've at least procured two of them so far: Our very own www.LuminosaCanal.com, and the rising free-to-watch platform Tubi. The movies will also be released for sale and rent on Amazon Prime Video, and all physical versions will be put on a number of online stores.
Risks & Challenges
-
As Pertúrpure Cinema, we've successfully released 4 short films (now streaming on LuminosaCanal.com and Opprime.tv) by the name of Neither You Nor I, under a budget of 3000 MXN; Love Without a Casket, under a budget of 4,000 MXN; We Are a Motive, under a budget of 6,000 MXN; and Misplace the Rabbits, UNDER THE CONSTRAINTS OF 1000 MXN! (not counting the cash spent on Film Festival entries for each film!). Even though we know a full-length motion picture is a whole different language, more so a TWO-PART MOVIE SERIES, this is the first time that we ever search to benefit from any type of crowdfunding. In other words, we will DELIVER.

Every bit of help counts, and every bit will be appreciated in at least one way (aside from saying "thanks", of course). You can either:
-
Involve your contacts in this filmic effort by sharing our Indiegogo link:
https://igg.me/at/indocilitythemovie
-
Share our Email Shout-Out to your friends, colleagues and family.
-
Print our posters and decorate your city's allowed places with them :D You could even pass around some flyers! Just let us know and we'll make sure your help is acknowledged.
-
Share our QR code. You can even stick it around your city!
-
Send your feedback about our campaign to perturpure.cinema@gmail and find out what else you can do to help.
Want to interview us? Thank you very much for your interest in our filmic endeavour. If you wish to request an interview, please contact us through: luminosa.publishing@gmail.com (this address is exclusively for media contacts).

AND THAT'S IT!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
